When the Devil is too busy, and death's a bit too much... They call on me, by name you see, For my special touch! To the gentlemen I'm misfortune, To the ladies I'm surprise, But call me by any name, Any name! It's all the same!
Coyle sat slung over a chair in the vast auditorium, humming to himself. Not that he hummed a lot. He was just bored, is all. In any case, he could hum really well. He was a master at it, and his voice was appropriately rich and sensual. Not that he was sensual either. He never really got that whole love thing. Must be a corporeal concept. And it's so easy when you're evil! This is the life, you see The Devil tips his hat to me! I do it all because I'm evil, And I do it all for free!
He sighed, picking at his nails. He wanted to do something...

We know That what we reap, we sow But we forget how low We can go You think it's bad here on earth, But if we don't get to heaven its hell.
Moss looked around. Where was he? He thought it'd be a good idea to look around during his break, but damn, had he seriously gotten himself lost? He rolled his eyes--newbies like him seemed to always get themselves lost. And then he had started muttering the words to that song, as though it would comfort him. And it did, in a way.
He spotted a door left slightly ajar, and as he looked inside, he was completely shocked. Oh... my--HOW DID THEY FIT THIS HUGE AUDITORIUM HERE!? He walked into the huge place, looking around blankly. It looked like a fancy chapel, he observed as he peered around. There were hundreds of seats on the ground, and hundreds in the balconey too.
So amazed with the massive place, he didn't notice the other person there. He was picking up strands on multiple scents, like a chimera. He wrinkled his nose a bit.

Abruptly, Cole got up, leaning over the balcony to see who had arrived. He could hear them thinking, and they sounded lost.
He liked lost people. They were fun to mess with.
"It's not that big." Coyle scoffed, his hands resting on the balcony railing and his head resting on his hands. "I've seen bigger. And grander. And cooler."
Corporeals were funny, the way they thought things were so amazing. Nothing was amazing in this dimension. Now the sixth dimension! That was where the party was at!
Boredly, he thought he'd do some fishing into the corporeal's head. One of hsi tentacles snaked out, stretching all the way down to the tippy top of his little head. A flash of information, and Coyle smiled slightly.
"Oooooh! You're fun! Wanna hang out?"
If nothing else, he could squeeze some kind of entertainment out of the corporeal. He was that bored, and he wasn't a free beast anymore. He was ruled by the man!
Or... the woman! Whatever floated your boat.

Moss whipped around and looked up to the person whom was speaking. Bigger? Grander? Cooler? Oh my. He stiffled his giggles behind a hand and watched this person. It was a male and my, my, was he handsome. The smell suddenly changed, and this person smelled like nothing he had ever smelled before. But...it wasn't a frightening scent, just an odd one.
He decided to look around a little more. Even if it wasn't the largest, grandest, or coolest, it was still pretty awesome. With a gentle smile, since he was no longer facing the person, he didn't realize his mind was being probed and his personal bubble was being invaded. Seriously.
He whipped around in time to miss the tentacle. He grinned. He was never picky when it came to gender, but it was always harder to play the game with another guy. "Sure!" He shrugged his shoulder, and although his voice hadn't gone above its normal purr, it wasn't so much because he was trying to court the male than his voice had merely taken on that trait.
He looked around for some way onto the balconey and spotted some stairs. He took them one at a time but not slowly, and he looked at the boy. Light blond hair and pretty black eyes. Some would think he looked evil. Moss thought he looked... cruel, in a way.

Now that Coyle could see more than just this corporeal's head, he could get a better handle on what he was dealing with. Not that mindreading didn;t do that for him already, but as some say not to judge a book by it's cover, he found it better to do the exact opposite. Why shouldn't he judge a book by it's cover? The cover was there for a reason, wasn't it? And who would buy a book with an old ratty cover? Coyle like the books with gold lettering and subtle embellishment that showed the true craft in making such an interesting read.
Covers were there for a reason, so why not take a peek at them? This one's cover was... interesting. He looked just like his insides did. Oooh goody. He was fun on the inside and fun on the outside. Coyle smiled, his human teeth perfect but deceptively so.
"What's your name?" He said, almost as if he was mocking this corporeal. He wasn't. This one sounded soft spoken, smooth, experienced in a way. It was his general tone of voice that only added the icing on the topping of a very pretty cake. Like that, Coyle's voice was always pleasantly filled with laughter. Not the happy kind, but it was close enough to fool most people. He wondered idly if it fooled his new acquaintance.
"I'm Coyle."

Moss found himself furrowing his eyebrows and thinking deeply about the way this one talked. He sounded like a joker, a kind person, a goofy person, but that was too at odds with his appearance. For some odd reason, he thought that it might not be a good idea to play the game to seriously with this one.
"My name is Knoei Titan. You can call me Moss--everyone does."
He said with a smile. He wasn't playing seriously--only having a bit of fun. He may take the game seriously if he played back andplayed well, that was the way he usually did it anyway. But...
With another sweeping glance, he took in Coyle's appearance. Suddenly and with no reason whatsoever, he began to laugh, and he propped his feet up on the bars that kept people from falling to their doom on the seats below. After his chuckles died down, he relaxed.
"This place is so boring sometimes. Makes me wonder how much trouble I'd get in if I left, maybe wreaked a little havoc."

"Oh, a lot I'd imagine."
Coyle leaned back in his chair, smiling, picking at his nails again and not looking at Moss.
"This school is strict in its own little ways, and that's the one rule they can't stand you breaking. You can't leave. They won't let you."
He thought to himself all the different, numerous times he had tried to escape this place, only to be thwarted by the finding of his anchor by another student. How he hated his servitude, even if it came with an all expenses paid trip to this dimension, he hated it. But he would never go back to his own dimension. No, never. Why would he do that? Did he look stupid? No. He wouldn't dare go back...
"But why would you want to leave?" He hated the irony of it. "This place is the most fun you can get. You're new. Just wait a while. Something crazy will happen, and you'll get sucked into the chaos, and you'll love it. That's the trick of this place."

Moss examined his shoes, a pair of old chucks that had been doodled on. They had long gone past the time some adults would find them wearable, but the sole was still intact and they were quite comfortable. He'd never known it was impossible to leave the school completely.
Why did he want to leave? That was an interesting question in itself he thought about what lay beyond the campus and everything that could be done he thought and thought and thought and finally came up with an answer.
"Well," Knoei said, leaning his head back to look at the ceiling where the lights illuminated the place and many black things dangled down on cords. "I guess I want to leave because I'm homesick. But..." The vision of the burning woods flashed brilliantly in front of his eyes. "I guess you can't be homesick with no home to go back to."
Moss pulled his feet of the bar that he had been using to examine his shoes. He was thinking, and thinking hard. What was he thinking? What had made him reveal that? It was his personal code not to seriously let someone in. He would distance himself from the physical acquantinces and allow his body to know someone only one way. This was breaking every wall he had set up for himself. And for some odd reason... he was okay with that.

Coyle sighed, thinking about that. Home. So he didn't have a home. How sad. Sounded a lot like someone he knew. No home, no hope of going back to the place in which he was spawned. It sounded a lot like himself.
"It's a tragic thing." Coyle said, simply.
Then, a thought sparked in his mind. How did they get on this topic? Was it something one of them said? He couldn't even remember, and that just ****ed him off. Stupid memory... He was amazed he even knew what home looked like. It was so many years ago. A lot longer than this school had been up. He couldn't even remember how long it was.
"You didn't come here for this reason." Colye reminded Moss. "And you didn't climb the stairs for this reason either."
He picked at his fingernails, obsessively, trying to figure something out.
Oh. He had it now. That was perfect.
"Funny, the things you think about when you meet a stranger. I know exactly what you came up here for, and you've almost forgotten it now."
He shrugged, sadly. If only he could stop laughing on the inside, this would be perfect...

Moss grinned. So, this guy was a mindreader. He had a feeling, not to mention that he hadn't been completely secretive about it. It was true, he hadn't climbed the strairs to talk, he had climbed the stairs to see if he couldn't court this amazing looking boy, and he entered the Auditorium because he was lost. He wasn't looking for someone to talk to.
Of course, that wasn't to say he exactly forgot. Sure, he hadn't been thinking about it, but after doing that with every stranger you meet for as many years as he has, the thought never completely goes away--it just makes way for other thoughts.
"You got me there. But even people like me start to notice that there are certain people you shouldn't mess with if you value yourself. You just came off as that kind of person." Moss shrugged feebly and looked down at the shining stage. It was a wonder he wasn't begginning to feel dizzy. Then he wondered why he should. He wasn't afraid of heights. Hell, he could jump down from here without flinching.
Moss ran his fingers through his hair he had managed to comb lightly this morning. It was already a royal mess though.

"Oh really? Did I come off as a bit of a challenge?" That sing-song tone of laughter was back, even after the moment of quiet. He hated quiet. Quiet meant things weren't happening. Lack of progress at its damned finest. "It seemed to me that you would be more the kind to go looking for little hearts to break. I don't look for anyone. People come to me, and they stay with me. It's their fault if they get hurt."
Again, he shrugged. He just couldn't be bothered with every lonely little heart that came to him so gullible and ripe. He wasn't a creature of affection like Moss was, so why would they come to him? Hmmm? Why would they plead to be near him? He didn't try. Not that hard, anyways. He was a creature of... a different kind of passion - something much more powerful than lust or physical desire.
He could do without physical desire, considering he hadn't started out physical, and he couldn't remain physical. He was a creature of smoke, only interested in that of the mind.
But then again, Moss's passion could be mental too. Only the best could make it that way.
"You though." He laughed. "You bait the hook and you throw the line out, tugging it back in just right - teasing them. You make it an art to reel them in, and once you do, you have them hooked. Why should I be the one to fear, if you plan everything from the beginning? I should be cautious of you, shouldn't I? You have a plan, and I can't see what it is..."
Lies. He could see it, but he didn't see it. He didn't want to this time.
"I'm just an on the spot kind of guy, you know?" Coyle laughed, noticing how Moss combed through his hair. Coyle's hair was always messy. It was that way by design - the design of pure, on the spot chaos.

Moss closed his eyes, but didn't say anything until he was sure that he had heard everything he had to say in its entirety. He replayed it until he understood and he stood out of his seat, throwing his legs over the ledge so he sat straight up over the bar, his legs dangling toward the ground.
"Looking for hearts to break eh? Didn't know it was that way. I don't take these relationships too seriously, they usually don't matter to me. I don't hunt for innocent hearts to break, I hunt for those like me who can play my game. I reward them with a conslation prize." Moss kicked his feet, and the noise echoed around. He listened to the rhythmic noise for a minute and then stopped.
Moss was accidentally silent for a second or two.
"And, is really my fault if they become addicted? I never look for an addiction."
A long sigh escaped from his lips and Moss stared at the ground between his feet. This was something he never questioned, and Coyle was very spot on of course, he found no reason to think about it much more than he already was. He was lonely, and someone filled the loneliness. But he got bored with only one person to fill the loneliness, so he gets someone new.

Coyle's head cocked to the side, thinking.
"Oh sure, no one looks for an addiction, but there it is, in front of you, waiting. There's a void, and what can you do but fill it?"
They weren't the only ones with the addiction. Moss had one. He had one too. Sure. Why not? What was so wrong with an addiction? Just a little one? Just one that you only had to feed every now and again? Where was the harm in that?
It wasn't like it would grow or anything.
"But you're right." Coyle said, responding to Moss's thoughts, not his comments. "You're absolutely right. People are boring. why would you want just one forever? That isn't fun. More of them, lots of them. So many you can't even count! That's what I want."
He cackled, seeing it now. Yes, it was beautiful, the multitudes of people. What good was one? One was the loneliest number. One was the smallest number. One was a terrible number. Who ever wanted the number one?
He leaned over his seat at Moss, grinning to himself, childishly. "And I'm sure that's what you want too, isn't it?"

Moss closed his eyes. He couldn't lie--that was exactly what he wanted. He wanted exactly that but nothing more. He wanted to try as many flavors as he could with only one life to live, try them all and never have to limit himself to a single flavor. There were too many to be sampled, and even ones favorite flavor could become bland and boring, and then they would try another flavor anyway.
Coyle was certainly interesting--and he offered something (he wasn't sure what that something was, he just knew it was something) that he felt that he couldn't get anywhere else. Moss sighed and swallowed, looking down. Was he frightened? No, he wasn't. Did he want to persue Coyle like he did everyone else? No... not his normal way. He would do this another way. He didn't know.
"No one ever looks for an addiction. I've never heard truer words in my entire life." Knoei turned himself around and placed his feet safely on the balcony before jumping of, leaning on it with his arms, watching the floor below. He thought about what it would be like, to watch some sort of production go on.
Titan allowed himself to chuckle. "One is only truly alone when surrounded by friends. But what of those whom have no friends? When do they feel truly alone?"

"When it's quiet." Coyle said, effortlessly. It sounded almost like he'd asked himself that question before, many times.
"People without any friends are loneliest only when it is quiet, and they can't distract themselves anymore from the fact."
How true that was. He knew it was true. Only when the roar of noise inside one's head died down, and all the brilliant plans were depleted could you truly hear it, but it was there. That same sound that socialites heard when their parties had ended and their friends had gone home - that was when they heard it. It was the same sound, no matter who you are or where you went. The same, sad, lonely sound of silence.
"Do you want to know the worst part about being able to hear people's thoughts?" Coyle asked, lacking that usual giggling croon to his voice. "It isn't that you find out people's real, selfish motives behind everything, or hear the nasty things they wouldn't dare say aloud. It's that one unified sense of loneliness. They all have it, no matter where you go, and it always sounds the same."
He shook his head, dreading that thought. Damn he hated that sound. It got so loud sometimes - the sound that was devoid of anything. It got so loud so consuming that it swallowed everything else up too. Then there was just the quiet. The deafening sound of quiet.
"But that's depressing." Coyle sniffed, uninterested in his thoughts anymore."No one needs to hear that.
