Hmm, this would be a tricky one... She backflipped away from her opponent. Right now, they were learning how to handle different types of opponents. Her opponent was using light of course. She narrowed her eyes and took in a deep breath
Here she comes
She charged top speed, nimbly flipping over her opponent's shoulder and aimed a blow to his back. He threw himself forward as her strike hit air. She crouched trying to think up a strategy. Everyone had a dominant side they fought with right ? Maybe if she affected that side, he'd have to use his other, and she'd gain the advantage.
She was so lost in her strategy she didn't even notice him attack until she felt the kick to her stomach and her flying through the air. She hit the wall and quickly recovered, tackling him and flipping him harshly on his back, ending the match as she put her foot on his neck.
She didn't bother pointing out the obvious . He knew he lost. She sat on the bench and took a sip of water. That had been interesting...

Le Cyll cracked the door open, taking a peek at the fighting children in the huge cavelike room of the cathedral styled castle. He had been bouncing around classes, obviously. He'd been doing it since he got here a few days ago. And why not? He did have core courses he was taking, but they were so tediously easy that he usually taped them and completed the assignments in his free time. He did not like listening to the dusty old professors speak anyways. He knew all the material. He'd been fairly bored as a child, and often his youth would be swallowed in a mass of books. He knew many of them, and after stories began to bore him, he had begun to read textbooks. They were more attention consuming for him. He had almost needed to stop reading them all the way through when his tastes for reading had reached that point.
Ah, good times...
Le Cyll leaned on the door, causing it to groan open. He then stepped inside, quickly closing the door and leaning against the side of the wall where he'd entered.
He did not need to participate yet, but it would be at least interesting to watch. A girl had just felled an older male, and was now awaiting a new challenger. Le Cyll yawned boredly, waiting to see what would happen.
Perhaps this was something to do in the daytimes... Other than roam the school grounds, of course.

She had been standing there for a few minutes, and was starting to get slightly irritated. Did no one want to fight her ? Seriously she didn't bite or anything... She was a pheonix not a freaking panther ! Finally another about her age stepped up, more like was shoved by her snickering friends, to fight her.
She looked scared, but got ready to fight anyway. Rei flexed her hands and decided to make the first move. A good offense was indeed a good defense. If you were constantly attacking, they couldn't attack you very well now could they ?
It was a simple attack really, she charged the girl fist ready and the girl blocked. At least she could block well. Rei acted like she was going to use her other fist but swung her foot in a swift roundhouse kick sending the other girl flying. Her friends caught her and threw her back and she seemed to decide magic was a better tactic.
A whip-like tendril of water was sent towards her and she was forced to flip and turn out of the way. She certainly got a few slashes and sent back a few times. This would, of course, get her nowhere.
Then, she noticed that her opponent was located in a rather shadowy portion of the room. It was her turn for magic now. She saw the girl slump in disappointment and she walked away once again not bothering to rub it in. She'd get free eventually.

Le Cyll obsessively smoothed the wrinkles from his shirt, making it perfectly straight and unblemished. He hadn't been paying too much attention to the fighting, but he'd grasped that the first girl had won again, and no one was willing to fight her. What a shame. Le Cyll made sure his shirt was perfectly straight, then looked up. Everyone else seemed so afraid of the little girl. She must be relatively good, considering.
Sighing, he wondered if he should just leave. He did not want to bore himself too much, becasue then the contemplation set in, and with that the memories started to pile.
Le Cyll was not a memory person. He preferred to think in the future and present, not the past. Perhaps because his was so agonizing?
He snapped himself out of it. There he went. Thinking again. That was a fairly good sign of boredom, and he did not want to be bored...
"Hey! You!"
Le Cyll looked over at the coach of this particular class. He motioned for the Kludde to come over, and tilting his head to the side, he did.
"You here for the class?" The teacher asked. He was looking at the girl now, hintng that she needed someone to fight.
"I couldn't." The Kludde replied, forcing a shy note into his voice. "I'm not very good..."
In truth, he was an excellent fighter. Too good for any of these little children. He did not want to fight them, not because it was too easy or such, but because he knew when he fought, he would fight to win.
The prize was the opponent's body. He tended to get carried away most of the time. Doubting his self control in the matter, he did not want to cause any interesting scenes, fin though they may be to cause.
"You'll do fine!" The coach was persistent. "She's a little girl and you're a big tough guy! I just need someone to face her off before we rotate her out for the period, okay?"
"No really. I can't-"
"Good then!" The coach shoved him into the ring, and he gave himself a moment to keep from falling over. Looking at the girl, he remained uneasily impassive.
Passivity. That was the key.

She looked at her next opponent, raising an eyebrow slightly. Not that she was doubting her abilities or anything, but he looked pretty tough. Hmm, maybe this fight would be more interesting. She tightened the bandages on her hands not bothering to look afraid. After all, this was fighting class.
Tactical Advantage was basically a fancy word for fighting class.
She got into her fighting position quickly and waited for him to get ready. If he thought she would back down he was dead wrong. She would fight until the match was called, simple as that. She wouldn't show pain either, if she could help it.
Now all she had to do was wait.

Le Cyll stared at the girl, not making any attempt to get ready.
He did not want to be ready. That would be rather bad. For him slightly, but for her more so. He had gathered that in this class, you were allowed to basically do whatever you liked, as long as you won in the end.
That... was also bad. Le Cyll shifted slightly, feeling all the wonderful little knives in his jacket shift with him. He would not use them. He would not. He tried to tell himself this, but he knew it was so very fun. Why shouldn't he? She was just a little girl. He wouldn't get too carried away, would he?
No. He would not prepare himself. He would not use his weapons. He would not change his shape. He would remain in his human form and he would be defensive against this girl, not offensive. He did not need the instinctual response of a struggle to the death to come into play. That was not the goal here...
Vaguely, he could smell the girl. He smelled fear on her. Not much, but it was there. She was a phoenix, no doubt she used her powerful ambitions to her advantage here. He wondered if-
No. Stand down. Do not analyze. Do not attack.
Just let the quiet engulf you... Just remain calm...
Le Cyll waited for the girl to be ready. Calmly.

She narrowed her eyes at her newest opponent, wondering why he hadn't made his move. She had offered him the first move, but he supposed he was a defensive fighter instead.
Hmph, this was her chance.
He seemed to be thinking about something, but she was wondering if it was just an attempt to fool her. Well, whatever the case, it her turn to move she ran at him, quickly closing the distance between them she aimed a strong punch to his face and quickly backflipped away before swiftly performing a roundhouse kick and then gracefully dropped to a dropkick. She swung her leg with surprising force, enough to create a large bruise if it hit, letting the adrenaline take over. She then skidded away to see if she had done any damage. Thankfully already planning her next move.

As the girl approached, she gained speed quickly - more quickly than he expected. Still, he was much faster than her. He could already tell. Sliding easily out of the way, he carefully avoided each move she made. She used the pivoting motion of her swings to create more power, and that was not a good thing for him. He did not take hits as well as he really should, and at times something like that could get annoying. Not here though. He took his time, and he saw her movements leading up to the inevitable strike. He was able to avoid all of them, weaving in and out of her range of reach as he did so.
He kept his hands at his side, and as he dodged, they itched at his jacket compulsively. He would have used his knives, but he would not. He used a fair amount of his attention to focus on not doing anything aggressive. It cut down on his reaction time, of course, but that did not seem to be a problem right now.
After her barrage of attacks was done, he stood hesitantly on the edge of the ring. He had allowed himself to take a few notes on her fighting style, and after a moment he concluded one thing: As long as she did not speed up, he would be able to dodge her.

She snarled as he seemed to dodge everything she threw at him. She didn't like losing. It was fact, and this simply fueled her agression. Hmm, she'd have to speed up if she wanted any chance of catching him. This time, she charged without warning sending punches and kicks left and right, her anger needed to be released, and if he made one mistake, it would be his body taking the beating.
All she heard was her heartbeat and the sound of the air rushing past her as she flipped over him her hands being surrounded by the typical aura of her darkness. She was taking this seriously now. She didn't like to reveal her advantage of darkness. She aimed her attacks to bruise and crush, not slice. If blood was drawn, she'd have to carried out of here kicking and screaming.
Not to mention it was one of her triggers...
So she developed her fighting technique to do internal damage rather than external. She kept the darkness around her hands, it strengthening her blows. If she needed, she could add more. She supposed he couldn't keep dodging the entire fight. What would be the fun in that ?
She just hoped he wasn't a light user...

The new barrage caught him completely off guard. She was angry now, and he had not seen it, because he had not analyzed her like he should have done. Now, he was facing the consequences.
He couldn't help but think this was all due to his lack of self control somehow...
Dodging, taking evasive maneuvers to far past the point he'd hoped, he could only rely on instinct to salvage the situation now. He was using instinct, not that beautiful flawless control he wanted. It was less safe, but extremely better at handling these things. Still, this girl was persistent, and as maneuverable as he was, he was also trying to hold that little sensation of fighting back. He was stifling his instinct while he was using it. That... never turned out well for him.
And just like that, he was not dancing around the fighting floor. He was hurtling backwards, a sharp, sweet stinging in his side. He hit the floor hard, painfully, not at all like what he had expected. He was lost now, he had lost his balance, and that posed a serious threat to him.
There was an enemy. They were coming closer. He needed to defend himself.
When the girl came too close, he used his leg to try and trip her. There was a small slit of silver as he gripped one of his beautiful hunting knives, the grip crackling in anticipation.
When she hit the ground, he would see what color her phoenix blood was...

She smirked in satisfaction as he was sent tumbling to the floor. So, speed was the key to fighting this opponent.
She landed in a crouch, before rushing him again. If only she had seen his foot fly out. She probably would have if she hadn't been so blinded by her rage.
Being a pheonix was a double- edged sword.
Impulse and need not only gained victories, but made it all the worse with defeat. She was sent flying and hit the ground harder than he had, a loud crack was heard and pain jabbed in her chest and she surpressed the cry of pain she was tempted to let out.
She would never give that satisfaction.
She tightened her jaw as she got up, this time staying in a crouch. A dark scowl on her lips.

Hearing the crack was enough to tip him over the oh so precarious edge. He was free now. Free to do what he pleased, and this little girl would not be as he was at this very moment.
He got up, quickly, easily, watching her rise as well.
Le Cyll was fast. Uncannily so. He was just holding back, was all. Just for this little girl. Didn't she feel special? Now though, he wasn't going to hold all that potential back. He would have something done about this mess.
He was up before she was, and took advantage of that immediately. Slicing his hunting knife across her back, he tried for a nice, long slit. That would reduce some of the pesky maneuverability she liked to use so much. She'd have a bit of a problem moving with that gash.

She felt the hunting knife slicing her skin and she knew she was in trouble. To try and avoid more damage, she jumped into the air sending her foot hopefully into his face, then brought it down savagely onto where his shoulder had been. Then, she landed in a roll, feeling the blood cascading down her back.
She snarled, darkness enveloping her hands as she lunged for him, aiming attacks at his injured side and neck. She loaded up her fist with a large amount of darkness and aimed it for his chest. If that attack even grazed him it would break a bone or two. He would pay for the pain she was feeling.
As she continiued to move, her gash was widening rapidly. She ignored it. Although she longed to feel blood on her hands, it wasn't to be hers. The longing for blood flashed in her eyes as she launched another punch to his side.
Blood looked beautiful on white...

Quiet. The peaceful, eternal bliss of silence. That is what he heard now, the hollow sound inside his head.
There was no more conflict, no more stifling of the instinctual aspects of this fight. There was only the complete, dogmatic certainty that this was a duel to the death, and nothing less.
It was about damn time, really. He had been waiting for another good fight...
Le Cyll took a wide step to the side, dodging the girl's frantic attempts to hit him. He stabilized, and as she rushed by missing him, he grabbed at her hair, knife in hand.
There was a nice little hook on the end of his knife, the kind that was used in skinning animals. He did not actually want to skin her, but that little hook was very good for puncturing. If he did in fact manage to catch her, he was sure he could at the very least break a collarbone.
Like clipping the wings off a bird, he thought to himself.

She bit her lip until it drew blood as she felt the hook crack her collarbone if not more.
She felt her darkness immediately surge towards the knife, attempting to make him abandon it. She cursed the fact that she had long hair as he held her down with it. She wondered if he had more of those hunting knives.
Her hand grabbed his shirt where the last one had come from and saw a glinting. She smirked and grabbed the knife hidden in his pocket and sliced through her hair that he was holding onto, and hopefully his hand in the process.
She flipped away, slipping his knife in the bandages that were wrapped in her thigh. Good luck getting that back, she thought getting back into her stance. This would probably be the last attack.
She was fully prepared to take him down with her.
