The girl didn't respond to Caelin's offer so she clasped her hand around the silver crucifix. One of the vampire got a little too close for comfort to Caelin so she shoved her open palm to its heart, leting the silver burn through its chest. Her chest heaved with excitement as the vampire died from the wound. She had never felt this way before. The chain looped around her fingers, the cross stayed in her palm. Caelin stared at awe at her hand and backed toward the group of people like her.

Elle watched as a new girl killed one of the vampires. She laid down low to the ground behind her, noticing the vampires shying away from the cross. She looked over as some of the monsters attempted to attck her from the side. Instinctively, she opened her mouth and released a stream of water. It had more force behind it than a fire hose as it swept several of the vampires off of their feet. With a slight smile, she turned back to the other girl.
"Um... Just keep using that thing," She said, refering to the cross. Anything to keep these things back.

Z had to cringe a little at that.
"Hey, don't get snappy with me. I'm just trying to say.... I don't want to end up like Romeo and Juliet or anything. I like you, and I'd fight these guys for you, but wouldn't a bunch of imported gems work just as well? They are more expensive!"
He was trying to reconcile himself with Illia. Maybe a bit too much. One of them jumped on his back, then another. There were too many of them. Even if they were dropping left and right. The group couldn't get them all. There just wasn't any way he could see to get out of this...
Hey, was that Crane and that creepy head vampire-guy?
* * *
White just chuckled at Crane's quiet demands.
"Sorry. I can't help it."
White knew Crane. He knew Crane could tell he was lying through his teeth. White also was not inclined to care at the moment. Why should he? Crane wasn't going to do anything. Not to him, not to his children. He just wanted his "mysterious" reputation to force White to submit, but White had dealt with these things before. He knew Crane was of no threat.
"Damn you, White."
"I am damned, Daniel. A lost soul compared to your perfect purity."
He sneered slightly, his voice remaining polite.
"But it seems damnation doesn't come with rules like divinity does. I don't have to do something just because you tell me to."
Crane didn't say anything. It convinced White to think that he had won this round.
He walked up to Crane, placing an arm around his shoulder.
"It's okay, Daniel. We'll go get you that wine I talked about."
White began to lead Crane away, taking a last look at the ensuing battle. So far, so good, and all was going uphill fast. It seemed for all the troll killing reputation the children had stacked up, the legions of the undead were a little too much for them.
Crane was looking at the ground, staring off into space and seemingly focused on the little rocks that composed the dirt road off of Market Street. White couldn't help but feel sorry for the guy. Poor Crane losing some of his kids to an old friend. What he needed was some alcohol... That'd fix everything.
There was a small commotion where the battle was. Something so small that at first White didn't care to notice it. Then, it escalated. There was a grating sound from deep in the earth, like two huge boulders grinding together, and in an instant, something very bad happened.
The ground opened up and swallowed White's children. Every single last one of them. He panicked, looking around for the cause of this calamity. The only thing he could think of was-
"Daniel, now that isn't funny. Let them up for some air."
"Vampires don't need air." He replied, calmly. "They'll be fine."
White stomped on the stones at his feet. He could hear the cries within, but the ground felt solid enough to build a city on.
"They're dying." White murmured.
"They can't die from a little dirt. They just can't move much is all."
White was angry now. No one did that to his children. Not even Daniel Crane.
"Bring them back up!"
"Make them stop attacking my kids."
His voice was so infuriating! how could he be so calm while he buried thousand vampires to their deaths in the ground? It wasn't natural! White thought of digging them up, but knew Crane better than that. His damned magic was too strong to be thwarted so easily.
"They won't listen to me!"
"Oh, I think they will."
He could hear them now, just below his feet - wailing for freedom, begging for it. He couldn't ignore that, not from his own kind. The sound of them filled the town with a loathing moan, chilling to the very core. White thought long and hard about this. Daniel wouldn't. He wouldn't! He wasn't going to leave a town full of vampires buried in the ground for eternity, was he?
"I don't believe you'll go through with it."
White seemed confident, overly so. He took out another of his thin cigarettes, tapping it against the pack before lighting it and taking a draw.
"Go ahead. Leave them down there. I don't think you will..."
Crane hadn't looked up from the ground since the two had started talking. He was completely focused, most likely on maintaining the spell. When he looked up, it was only to frown at White sadly.
"That sound isn't going to go away, you know. They're immortal. They will make it until they see moonlight again."
The whole town... sounding like the cries of the damned calling from the pits of hell. White wasn't even willing to put up with that for eternity.
"....Fine." The vampire muttered, all the charm in his voice gone. "Just let them up."
Crane looked back down, and the ground turned to fine grained sand. A thousand bodies clawed up out of the sand, eager for freedom.
Even before they had done recovering, White was already leaving.
"Leave the kids alone. We'll settle this another time."
There was a collective bicker and roar from the vampires, but in a second, White was glaring at them.
"Did you hear me or not? Leave the brats alone."
White barged into his cafe, the undead following close behind. In moments, the streets were empty, save the group and Crane.

Illia drew in several deep breaths as the vampires left and the streets became bare. She took a step forward to ascertain that they weren't coming back before looking toward Crane. So... He saved them... But he put them in this situation! Come to think of it... Now was her chance. Here he was, the enigmatic Crane himself. Illia had to know... About this, about their class, about everything! Now he was going to talk to them! He had to! She replaced her skin, however, she was still a bit shaken with fear and anger. She stumbled and fell to her knees. Illia took several more breaths before she pushed herself up and faced Crane.
"What... What the Hell's going on?!" Her voice shook despite her attempts to remain in control, "Everything... What's your game?! What do you want from us?!"

That was quite easy. The group then just walked away, or disappeared. She faced where Illia was shouting at. Mizore felt that she is acting like those girls would do when her boyfriend got in a big, big trouble in an anime. And then the girl would give up anything for her boyfriend, even her life, and she is getting off-topic.
She saw Crane, standing there. Her face didn't change at all. Just like that, dull, as if nothing is happening.

Caelin would have continued her assault... if there had been reason to. But the vampires disappeared below the ground and reappeared. Afterwards, they just walked away. It was like the attack had been called off... had it? She turned to the girl who had sprayed water from her mouth like a giant hose. "Is it over?" Caelin asked, visibly shaken.

Crane looked a little overwhelmed. Not by the whole vampire and betrayal of his friend fiasco. He'd figured White would try something, and frankly, he was disappointed by the old vampire's resolve in the end.
Some people just didn't have the perseverance...
No, he was more overwhelmed with Illia's battery of questions - her odd, angry and half-crazed way of asking them. It startled him more than anything White could have done - this strange response to an otherwise benign situation.
"It wasn't that bad, was it?" He asked, sheepishly. "The troll was more dangerous than the vampires."
Obviously he had miscalculated somewhere... This wasn't really what he'd expected... A little gratitude, maybe. A few offhanded comments on the strange classes.
The Professors' startled expression faded.
"What has Derek been telling you?"
That must be it, then. A leak in the chain of command, and Rehnquist wouldn't dare say anything yet. He'd have to talk to Derek about it later. Straighten a few things out.
"Look, I don't know what you've heard, but it doesn't sound like you've found any reliable sources yet." He smiled. "The doctor? Really? Derek is the most paranoid phoenix I've ever met. Didn't you get that from him while he was talking to you?"
Apparently not, or they wouldn't be here now, wandering around and asking him all sorts of strange questions. Oh well, moving on...
"And Mike... He's been telling you lot things too. Probably riddled off some nonsense about me being an angel, right?"
Good old Mike. Sure, he knew Crane, but he didn't know what Crane knew now. It might change his opinion of the Professor if poor old Mike knew the situation. That was why Crane left Mike out of it this time. Too much bother for the old spider. He wouldn't worry over something he didn't know about to begin with. Or, not until one of them had told him... Another miscalculation and another mess he'd have to clean up.
Actually, this whole thing had been one big mess, hadn't it? Nothing had gone the way it was supposed to. He wasn't even supposed to be around for the kids to find him and ask him these things. He really wasn't good with questions. And Illia looked too intent on asking him them to let him leave without an explanation.
"I'm... Not sure exactly what to say.... You weren't supposed to know anything yet. Not until the training was finished."
He looked around, noticing the vampires still glowering at him from the windows. This wasn't really a good place for questions either.
"I've heard you're planning a raid on the Teacher's Lounge, right?"
It seemed somehow wrong for him to know about this, and not do something to stop it, but he'd worry about the small details later.
"Well, I wouldn't stop you after all the work you put in. Scaring the Press Room half to death and upsetting one or our finest writers. How about you ask your questions there?"
Sounded reasonable enough. He didn't have the answers. How could he? The plan was in turmoil, and the consequences were barreling down on him in ways he couldn't begin to explain to the students. No, he used to know how it would all play out. Not anymore. He'd need time to reconfigure - account for Derek's setting this whole chain of events off.
It would take a while...
"Yes, I think I'll be ready then..." Crane wasn't talking to them anymore. He was already thinking into the future, planning things out again. This sole thought enveloped him, and in a minute, he couldn't have cared less where he was or who was in front of him. He just needed to think..
Crane stepped back, against the wall of an old brick building. When he touched it, instead of it being solid, it warped to let him through, and he disappeared through the building and out of sight.

Illia was left staring at the place where Crane had disappeared, disbelief plain on her face. What now? He hadn't told them anything. It seemed the only thing to do was to carry out that raid. Perhaps then she'll finally have her answers. She looked up at the night sky as her anger began to flare up again. What the Hell was with this school?! Just what did they want from them?! Are they just some pawns in a twisted, little game?! The rage she felt was too much, and her skin immediately melted away. The chimera dropped to the ground, snarling as she did. Without another look toward the group, she galloped down the road and out of sight.

Elle looked at the girl with the cross and nodded slightly. She was still terrified, looking around, expecting to see more vampires come charging out. Then Profesor Crane began explaining something to Illia, but Elle was still shaking so bad that she was sure she'd only caught half of it. She just wanted this day to be over. She wanted tomorrow to start so she'd feel safe again.
"I-I-I think I should g-go now," She said, her voice trembling.
With that, she lept off of the ground and began flying toward the Academy. Flying slowly, as her wings were still shaking with fear. She flew away from the town. Away from that terror.

Z looked after Illia, watching her dash off. She was really upset... and all over this Crane guy. Did she really want to know that badly?
He didn't know if he should run after her - try to calm her down. Or should he give her some space and wait until she cooled off to talk?
And, was the raid even still on? Even after Crane knew about it? He hadn't specifically said he'd punish them for it. He hadn't really said anything, had he?
Damn Crane.... If he made Illia this angry, then he was asking for a little fire.
"Illia! Wait up!"
Z decided to go after her. Even if she was upset, he'd try to lessen the blow.
He followed her out, leaving the rest of them behind. [/size]
