A new day

They started down the other end of the mountain without fear. But Draner soon learned that she had much to be afraid of. The rocks were incredibly slippery, and that was made no better by the fact that it was raining like there was no tomorrow. And there was the cave radiating evil and horror crossed her features. No. No, she couldn't. No matter what the cost, she couldn't go into that cave. A monstrous roar of thunder caused her to jump and nearly, nearly made her slip and fall to her doom, and that would have been bad. She'd rather be terrified than dead. With a heavy gulp, she gestured to the cave and, ears pressed down and tails between her legs, she went just inside and curled up, every nerve supercharged.

Seeing her intense fear Zeus curled his body around hers.
alert and ready for anything so that drenar didn't have to be.
but an idea popped into Zeus's head.
out of no were Zeus began to sing quietly.
it was an old lullaby were he remembered it from he doesn't know.
but he sang anyway.
it was a song of spring and the sun.
a song of life and peace.
this song could put any mind at ease.
feeling Drenar shiver in fear he curled tightly and kept singing.
but while singing he kept a constant watch on the caves inner walls and dark halls.
with the soft song he sang he felt Drenars heart rate slow and her breathing settle.
but he kept singing.
he would sing until they were out and away from this dark cave.

She hated it here. Why had she agreed to this in the first place? There was thunder and lightning like crazy outside and there was something lurking around in here. She just couldn't win. As the other began to sing, she felt as though it was a song she should know, but the words escaped her. Something about the sun and spring, life and peace, all of which were things that Draner liked which aided her in calming down when surrounded by all of these frightening things. Slowly, Draner actually fell asleep listening to the lullaby, though whenever the thunder crashed they were too close to the cave's mouth for it not to startle her into waking up.

When the rain began to slow down and eventually stop, Draner couldn't wait to get out of here. Draner had never had anyone to protect her. Renard was too weak to defend himself so that job always fell on her. Draner was the protector and fighter. She was unused to being protected.

the rain had finally stopped.
both Drenar and Zeus were happy although the rocks remain slick they manged to use each other and work slowly down the mountain. slowly step by step they climb.
after what felt like years the got to the bottom in about and hour and a half.
with a sigh of realef Zeus gave Drenar a big hug.
We made it he said back to his quiet voice.
although the storm was over it left a gloomy realm behind it.
everything was wet and dim.
not very spring like at all. but that didnt matter.
they were away from that cave and could go on with their day.

After all that, now Draner was hungry. Unless her internal clock was wrong, wasn't it just about time for lunch? That meant it was hunting time! Rabbits and birds and shrews, oh my! What a great time this would be. "I'm hungry... let's hunt a little bit." she said, returning his big hug, even though it almost threw him completely off balance, that was okay. It wasn't like she could be hurt that badly now that they were on solid, unwavering, non-off the ground terra firma, she felt good. She was glad Zeus had been there. Otherwise she would hav completely lost it.
