"You only seem to recognize your idiocy when it suits your own profit for a witty reply, but otherwise, you seem to have brains enough contrary to your poor use of them." Damion was not interested in Neron's silly wit. He was quite sick of it by now and was quite ready to smack Neron into the next century. Maybe by then he would have gained some manners. Damion walked over to where he had set the girl down. He then, after looking at her wounds, let his eyes travel up to her face. He almost fell over himself when he saw the familiar visage of Miriel. "What the-" he was so shocked that he could hardly talk. He just sat back, staring at her in disbelief and sorrow. How is it that she, someone who was so kind and seemed so perfect could be...No...It couldn't be true. As he tried to convince himself that it wasn't true, he saw something like sparks leap up to the wound on Neron's side, and then, when he stepped away, to her wound. "Why did it have to be you?" Damion muttered. He heard what Neron had said about healing others first. At least she understood the meaning of compassion, unlike some people. He was still in shock, but he tried to shake it off. It was very hard for him to think about kind, caring, sweet, and fun Miriel being the thing that he hated the absolute most, in all of the world. He let out a long sigh, and then turned around as he slowly started to change into his human form. The ice dragon seemed to fade away into a storm of snow and ice shavings that simply fell around him in their usual, graceful way. Silent, soft, and gentle, that was why he would always love snow. He then turned back around and went over to Miriel. His hands, he hoped that no one would realize, had burns on them, bad ones. That is what holding Miriel had done to him, but he didn't regret it. He was glad that he saved her.

Neron didn't pay attention to Damion's latest remarks and decided to remain silent for once. But it didn't last for long. He was busy watching the white sparks dance on Miriel's form, clustering mostly around her worst wound. Each spark seemed to make Miriel's face whiter. His gaze flashed to Damion, "Don't touch her... yet. If you do she will heal any wounds you have.." He then turned his attention back to his friend."Miriel... stop.. you'll kill yourself as you continue.." He hissed at her. But the sparks didn't stop, "Miriel" His eyes flashed angrily.
---------
Miriel's eyes flashed open, they glowed for a moment before fading, as did the sparks. All of the color had drained out of her face. She had to bite her lower lip to keep herself from draining any more of her power. The coughing had stopped and no longer did she cough blood. But her side was still seeping blood. "IT hurts..."
-------------
Neron shook his head, he had never seen her this weak, nor had he ever had her mention anything about hurting before. "This is bad... why did you have to change form Miriel? Why?!"
-----
To stop the fight." Miriel smiled grimly. Her eyes flickered to Damion as he heard what he had muttered. But her eyes softened to sorrow "I'm sorry......I was going to tell you..." A sigh came to her lips as she closed her eyes and bit her lower lip. Conserving her strength for more important words to come, which she had a feeling that they would.
----
"Well, you are taking this a lot better than I thought Damion, I'm amazed you haven't walked off yet." Neron gazed at DAmion with a smug smirk.

"I know. I have been around phoenix's before." Damion said as he came closer and knelt down next to her. He silently listened to Neron trying to get Miriel to stop before she went beyond the point of returning. He hated how white she was, she had lost a lot of blood, and it was still coming out quickly. He could tell that she had stopped healing herself, but that also meant that that was pretty much it. There was nothing left that could stop what was going to happen. If no one did something, she would bleed to death. Thankfully, Damion knew how to help this. Damion found it slightly amusing that for once, Neron actually seemed genuinely concerned for something, a little scared possibly? When Miriel told her reason for changing, Damion nodded his head slowly. He had done similar things before simply because his opponents refused to give up their hatred. Miriel knew that Neron wouldn't stop, and so she had taken the responsibility to stop Neron. When Miriel apologized, Damion sighed again. "Don't worry about it, Miriel. I might as well get over it. Life keeps moving, and besides, in my opinion, you aren't that bad, even for a phoenix." he put a slight smile on his face, wanting to lighten the situation, knowing that it would take alot, but that was okay, he could still try. That was it... When Neron said it, he was couldn't take it any more. This guy had been getting on his nerves since the day that he had first met him. He was rude, a complete jerk, and he had no right to speak on so many things, but took the liberty, as though he knew anything at all about the situation. "No, Neron. I don't walk off and leave my friends to die, unlike some people. I have a heart, and I have a conscience, thank you very much. Now if you are quite through you can take your comments to another poor soul, but not here, and not now, they are not helping any, if that even comes as a surprise." After that, he turned his attention back to Miriel. He knew very little about healing, but he knew the basics. He would have to make it a point to learn more about them later. Right now, though, he would use what he knew to help Miriel, because it might just buy her enough time to get rested up and gain the strength enough to heal herself. "Miriel, I am gonna cause your blood to clot. If it hurts too badly, then tell me and I can make the pain go away." with that he started to use his magic skills and cause the blood to cease. He put his hand over the wound and then whispered a spell that he pulled out of his endless archives. The blood slowly ceased to flow. The pain was going to be great, and he knew that, but there was nothing to do, other than numb it. He would do so if she needed it, but at the moment, he wanted to concentrate on making sure that the wound wouldn't start bleeding again later.

Miriel had a faint smile as Damion mentioned her not being that bad for a Phoenix. She was relieved that he was taking this so well and was acting the way a true friend should. This had been worrying her for a while after she had learned about his hatred for PHeonix's. Now he knew the truth and the worst was put behind her. Certainly things could only get better from now on.
--------------- Neron bared his fangs at Damion. He was no longer needed here, nor was he ever needed anywhere. His eyes drifted to Miriel, her pale form reminded him of a crushed lilly on the ground. If he could truly express his feelings he would label them as, worried, scared, disappointed him himself and tired of living. Shaking his head he turned and left, his body flickering and fading in the darkness before turning back into his human form. Then his presence was no longer felt by those around him.
-----------
Miriel watched NEron's fading figure and she turned her focus to Damion, "He's worried..." But that's all she could say before Damions spell started to work. It sent pain streaming up her side to such an intensity that she was having trouble staying out of unconsciousness's reach. BUt not a cry came from her lips, instead her eyes just closed tightly and her fists balled tightly at her side. She was used to baring pain, it was part of her life, it always had been. But perhaps since she was weak the pain was more acute than ever before. YEt she also knew that the pain was the only way for her to survive the night.

Damion couldn't say that he was upset to know that Neron was gone. He hated to dash anyone, but that guy was on his last nerve, and he was about to break. Neron just needed to go before he made Damion become unrational. Damion knew how to make people like him go away, he had had to do it Jaedon before. Make them as guilty as heck for everything stupid that they have ever done and they will wither up. It gave them a feeling of uselessness, and Jaedon had told him how much she hated that. "I can't really tell what he is feeling, but Jaedon would have been feeling bloody miserable right about that point. I am sorry if I was overly cruel Miriel, but that was a little more than I could take. It is better that he go then me blow up and we start this dreadful fighting business all over again." Damion spoke as he continued to stop the wound up. He then saw how much it was hurting her. "Oh, go ahead..." he thought to himself. He then put his other hand on her arm, aware that his burns would start hurting, but that was okay. The second that he touched her arm, his magic started to set in. It would have felt like ice, running its way up her arm and then into the rest of her body. Much like the feeling of a cold gel on sunburn, the magic would have felt like a cold potion that spread through her in creeping viens, spreading a numbing power all over her on the side that was hurt. She would be able to feel nothing by the time that it was done. Damion's eyes were glowing a bluish white, looking like crystals with light shining through them from the back. He smiled as he looked at her pale face.

The pain was almost unbearable as it made it seem like someone was racking through her wounds all over again. But then a cooling refreshing sensation rushed over her. Peace, how sweet it was. First it was very weak as the magic had just started, but soon it broke through her senses and gave everything peace. Her form relaxed immediately as the feeling of exhaustion finally caught up to her. A spark came back into her eye, not a very bright one, but a spark never the less, she would live. Though it might take her a bit to recover fully. She needed a good rest, actually more like a couple of good solid naps. "Thank you.." She smiled faintly at him, "For everything." Her eyes drifted to where Neron had gone without turning her head. "Don't worry about him... he won't do anything stupid...I hope.. Neron is so much like JAedon it scares me.." She laughed quietly, though it sent pain shooting through her side. It was soon stifled by Damion's magic and peace filled her soul once more. "I thought that she was one of a kind until I met him. Both were really hard to make friends with."

Damion's spell was almost done with its work, and he wished that he could do more, but this was it. He was just glad that clotting it up was working, somewhat. He would have to put another spell on it that would ensure it didn't reopen later on before Miriel had a chance to heal herself. The blood had been coming out so fast. Her bones would be aching later on. "Yeah, the only real difference is that when Jaedon gets mad she is can be stopped if you try, Neron doesn't even acknowledge that you exist, you are just something to kill. But bitterness can do that, I know those hateful feelings. They are hard to overcome." he continued to work on his spell. One was complete, but one he would have to keep going for a while, until Miriel fell asleep probably. He then turned to Miriel with a smile on his face. "Don't thank me. I am just helping a friend." With that, he removed his hand from her wound, but kept his other hand on her arm. "I am going to numb the rest of your body because this is not going to feel good." his hand started to glow a bright blue as more icy waves swept through her body, but it was much more strong this time, and it worked alot faster. The glow of Damions eyes grew brighter. When the spell was done he rose on one knee, and with some mockery made a slight bow. "Would the fair maiden allow her humble friend to take her home?" he opened her arms as though to pick her up.

Miriel sighed as she felt the first magic spell was complete. "That's true... Neron can get a bit carried away.. He wasn't always like that.. You know that he was once a green dragon with bright silver stripes, or at least that's what he has told me. I'm sure you understand better than me what it takes for Dragons to shift colors...I just hope he come to peace with his past soon.." She winced slightly at what Damion had said, not because she hurt right now, but she knew what that meant later. "You know.. I'm not sure I like being on the other side of healing.." She smiled. Her eyes closed as the icy feeling flooded over her. "WHo knew cold could feel so good.." She muttered. Then her smile faded and slightly. "If I was well enough I would take care of those burns on your hands..." HER eyes opened. "That must have hurt.." she wanted to reach up and inspect the wounds she had inflicted, but her hands were now to numb to do that. When he asked if she wanted to be taken home Miriel laughed, "I don't have much of a choice do I?" The smile on her face turned slightly evil as she joked, "I'll try not to burn you this time..." Of course she couldn't have if she wanted to, she was to weak to do anything.

Damion looked up at the sky for a moment. "Yes, I do know what it takes to change a dragon. I remember starting to change one time, but thankfully I pulled myself out of that little pity party pretty quickly. I am having trouble imagining Neron as green though. All wounds take time to heal, and some never go away completely. Neron will get over it soon enough. He will realize one day that he can't go through the rest of life in such a manner." He laughed when she said that she didn't like being on the other side of healing. "Ah, that is funny that you should say that, because I would rather not be on this side. I am sure that you can tell I am no physician. I would rather be the one under a physicians care because I know that I can pull through, it is when I am healing others, or trying to that I become rather frightened." He almost laughed again, "Ice is very good. Cold is very good. It provides so much, and no one ever thinks about it." he looked at his hands for a second. "Ai, don't you worry about this. Even though it hurt, it was worth it. I'll just bring some oversized oven mits with me next time I see you falling out of the sky." he laughed. "No, I don't think that you do. And though you might not like the knowledge, I did that on purpose. If you burn me this time, I will drop you. You won't feel anything, except for when you wake up in the morning." he smiled as he leaned towards her and picked her up carefully. He had one arm supporting her back and on supporting her legs. He was almost able to wrap his arms over her, but he just tucked his elbows in, and used his hands to keep her still. He then rose from his knees and started to walk back towards the girls dorms. The cool air began to blow in the trees, making the peace of night come back.

" You frightened." Miriel smirked slightly, " I can't imagine that.." At the thought of him wearing huge oven mitts, a laugh racked her body. " Yes, you must remember those next time. When he lifted her off the ground Miriel had never felt so secure in her whole life. She knew that she was in good strong arms that would protect her, no matter what she did. The burns on his hands were a testament of it.
It was now that she could feel sleep calling her into it's haven. Sleep, a place of rest, a place of peace. Resting her head on Damion's chest she drifted slowly off. Every feature on her face relaxed and became as serene as the mountains in the morning. Even if she didn't want to remember this day and what had happened, she did want to remember one thing, the end.
THE END!!
