As Ramier dragged Moss through the whole school looking for food, he found out a few things on the way.
First, he found out he could sit and be comfy inside his necklace if he didn't want to be solid. Second, he saw that there were a lot of people staring at him when he walked right alongside Moss using exactly the same motions as him and looking exactly like him. It was kinda awkward, and eventually Ramier decided he needed a new way to look.
So he tried out several while he was walking.
He tried out one that looked all wrinkly and old, but that one felt funny so he tried out one that looked like a girl, bit he didn't want to be a girl, then he tried out one that looked a lot like Coyle's true form until he got a lot of complaints and gasps from the people around him where eventually he just settled into Moss' old form again.
"Mommy, people look like their parents but not exactly, right?" Ramier asked, after he thought he'd take a break for m all this form shifting stuff.
"So.. Maybe I should look like you but not be you? Like a small not-looking-like twin."
And then, something happened and his mind snapped into place, almost like it was designed to think like a well oiled machine.
"I should look younger, and have dark hair, and your features but more accentuated because I need to look like a child."
Then that little, robotic though passed and Ramier went back to wondering about himself.
"Wow! That was cool, right? I think funny! But I'm right! I should look..."
He changed, and this time the change was slow as he tried to formulate what he may look like as Moss' child. Eventually though, he came out with the perfect form, and the perfect variation of Moss that made him look related but still different. It was a short, adorable form with pudgy hands and a rounded, cherubic face with deep dark eyes and curly black hair that got in his eyes a bit.
Looking around from his new vantage point, Ramier decided this was a good form; but it would be nice to get Mommy's opinion. He had a say in it, after all.
"Mommy, do you like it? It looks good, right?" Ramier asked, cutely. Possibly on purpose to sway his mother's mind.
Well, looks like the kid had a bit of his father's genes in him too, but he wasn't aware of that. He just did what came naturally to him and that was all.

This whole parenting thing was an entirely new experience for the Barguest, but at the same time it was as though it was nothing new at all. It was as though it was something that he'd done many times before in other lives, to other people and things like that. Ramier, (whom he'd taken to calling simply Rammy in his head) was an entirely new experience for him though. He'd never known that something so pure and nice could come from him and Coyle, neither of them were nice at all. But somehow, some way, they had made him. It was interesting, it was confusing, a cornicopia of things he never knew or understood.
How could they have made something that neither of them were?
It was funny to see the faces that people made towards them while they walked down the hallways to the Dining Hall. After all, they looked like perfect copies of one another, which they would have dismissed as their being twins if it wasn't for the fact that everyone knew Moss was an only child and didn't have siblings. So people stood there, gaping blankly with eyes filled to the brim with confusion and in a few cases, horror.
Since Ramier insisted on pulling him, he had the perfect view of him as he became an old man, decrepit and doubled over, barely moving forward, and then he became young girl, which he'd barely registered as being the same being before he became Coyle, which was probably what freaked everyone out the most.
It was all Moss could do to simply nod to Rammy's voiced thoughts. He was right, essentially. A child was supposed to resemble a combination of a mother and father's traits, so he didn't look exactly like one parent or the other. The elder kept a close eye on his kid as he began to change again, much slower than before. He was putting a lot of thought and purpose into this. Mistakes couldn't be made, right? They were a few feet from the huge doors that went into the Dining Hall before he'd found the right form, a little toddler with curly hair and largish eyes.
He was so adorable!
"It looks wonderful Ramier." Moss stated as they came around into the Dining Hall. He had the powerful urge to pick up the small one, but didn't know if he'd be able to do so.

Looking up at his Mommy now, with perfect form and all, Ramier couldn't help but feel a strong, loving impulse come off of Moss.
Not that he didn't feel everything that the Barguest felt. He knew everything that he thought. It was just... natural for Ramier to do that. He had been attached to Moss for his whole life, so why stop attaching himself now? What was the difference, besides Ramier not actually being inside his wonderful Mommy.
So when Moss felt it, Ramier did too, and he hugged at his Mommy's legs like a little kid in a big, confusing grocery store looking for cover from the huge world.
"Mommy you can always hold me. I don't want to be away from my mommy."
And then they entered the huge doors of the Dining Hall, and Ramier got very amazed at the bigness of everything. Wow... Big... Could he be that big?
Probably, but he liked being small. It seemed right for Mommy to be bigger than him.
Now scanning over all the food with an expert eye in the matter, Ramier pulled his Mommy over to a table and then proceeded to gather up all kinds of delicious foods for both himself and Mommy. But.. mostly for himself. He wanted to try everything, and his plate was piled very high by the time that he stopped searching around and picking up things. It almost looked comical - the little child holding a huge buffet-style plate over him as if he could lift it. But he could lift it. Really easily. He could lift lots of stuff, and the plate wasn't even heavy for Ramier.
After the little escapade, Ramier came back with tons of food for them both, and without further notice he began to shovel down everything at once, mixing hot dogs with cheesecake and souffle with bologna. It didn't matter. Ramier didn't really need to eat anyways, but he wanted to taste stuff, and he still felt hungry for some reason.
He always felt hungry, and the food was helping!

[/blockquote][/blockquote] It was a relief to know that he could pick up the little one whenever he felt like it. But some deep parental part of him scolded him for not thinking that he could pick up and carry his own child. But he'd seen in the dorm that Ramier would simply faze through things if he didn't concentrate on staying solid. Did he have to announce when he was going to pick him up then? Or could he just reach out to him and lift him?
Moss figured he could do the latter, especially considering that Rammy seemed to be capable of reading his thoughts, intentions, and emotions quite easily.
He allowed himself to be led to a table, keeping an eye on the small one as he went around picking up food... a lot of food, until his plate was stacked high with it. A soft chuckle fell from his lips as he watched him do this, wondering what would possess him to get so much food. Of course, now that he thought about it, he'd never seen Coyle eat. Maybe he could eat it all without getting a stomach ache.
And even if he did get a stomach ache then Moss would take care of him. That's what a parent did, right? Take care of their kid when it was sick?
The Barguest took some of the food, it being the first thing he'd eaten in a while that wasn't bloody or made of wood and graphite. It felt as new as the day he ate it. So he ate, being mindful of the young one's mouth. He was still small so he let him get away with atrocious table manners this time, but next time he'd have to act a little better.

After gorging himself on as much as he possibly could for the circumstances - he may not be solid, but he sure felt like it now - Ramier pushed the tray away with a contented little sigh.
He had noticed that mommy knew of something called manners. He didn't know what manners were, or why you would need them, but instead of looking into mommy's memories for answers - because that might be under the manners category - he instead asked.
"Mommy," Ramier said in his small, low voice. "Why do we need manners? And what are they?"
Ramier had noticed mommy eating some things with those weird implements and although he gleaned from mommy's mind that these were "spoon" or "fork" he did not know why mommy used them sometimes and not others.
It confused him, but not in a way that would baffle someone. It was just a foreign concept for little Ramier. He could understand if given proper instruction. He had a very good memory - one that did not waste stuff like mommy's did.
Well, not that mommy wasted things, but Ramier was sure that if he asked Moss right now at what time Ramier had been born, he would not know. Neither would he know at what time they arrived at the lunch table, or what color a scarf was three years ago on Agust the fourteenth.
Ramier could remember stuff like that. He was like a little video camera tricked out with all the senses, and he had been on play since he'd been born. He could not forget.
He wondered if daddy could?

[/blockquote][/blockquote] "Manners," He decided to begin, wondering why it was Ramier didn't know this if he had access to all of Moss's knowledge and memories, "are things like chewing with your mouth shut and saying 'please' and 'thank you'. They're basically just things that people do to be polite to other people."
One of his hands went up to his head and he scratched it slightly. This was all so new and confusing to him that he wasn't quite sure how to handle everything. "And if people don't have manners then people won't want to listen to you, or be nice to you."
He picked up the fork and spoon and explained to him how to use them and when also, hoping that he did it all in a way that little Ramier would understand.

Ramier nodded very carefully and watched Mommy very closely as he demonstrated how to use knives and forks and spoons. It wasn't that he didn't know... it was just he liked hearing Mommy talk, and it was nice to communicate to people via talking. He got the sense that Mommy liked that better too - just because maybe having a telepathic link to someone isn't the best idea if that person hadn't planned it.
It was rude, right?
Ramier picked up a spoon then, demonstrating easily how to use it. He then tried the same with the knife and fork, using it just.... actually, exactly as Moss might.
He got everything from Moss, even the motor control memory. Ramier sawed a steak into pieces then ate them separately, smiling after he did so.
"Look! I did it!" he smiled, then stabbed a piece of broccoli with a fork and swallowed that whole.
He chewed the next time though... He understood why Mommy had explained manners. They seemed important.
But now Ramier wasn't as hungry anymore, and most of the food was gone anyways. He wanted to go do stuff, and he wanted Mommy to show him where things were!
He wanted a tour!
"Mommy!" Ramier got up out of his chair - pushing it back in like a good boy - and ran over to Moss so he could bounce up and down excitedly. "I want to see the outside now. Can we go? Please?"
Without really seeing if Mommy had payed attention to him, Ramier grabbed Moss' hand and dragged him - literally now, as Ramier was very strong - out of his chair.
Together they drag-skipped out of the dining hall, Ramier mumbling questions as he went.
Ah yes... Parenting was a wonderful and new experience!
