Because I don't like people thinking I am something I'm not. If people don't like me because of my past then thats their problem I guess. But you were just easy to talk to thats all and plus if you tell then i die and thats fine with me but maybe not my girlfriend...didn't think about that ops." Chase put on a fake smile becuase he wanted to be happy but couldn't be happy.

Erzbet's eyes dulled to a more golden color. She wasn't feeling quite so...wild anymore. But she was confused. "You risked your life so I would think well of you?" It was the strangest reason for telling a secret she'd ever heard. She didn't know if anyone thought well of her. If they even thought of her at all. That's the way she lived: invisible to nearly everyone. He had a girlfriend and probably dozens of friends that already thought well of him. Why did he need another? It was a conundrum. "If I told..." Though she had no intention of doing so. "Wouldn't my life be forfeit as well?"

"If you told on me all my friends, family and my girlfriend will be sad because i would be killed but you would have t take my place by force to keep the murders happening. The Kodiac doesn't care at all about people. They just want their plan to be carried out to the end. So if you tell on me sure i'll be killed but you would be interduced to a life of painful memories." Chase explained to Erzbet.

I miss my jungle. Erzbet thought suddenly. Her world wasn't nearly as complicated as the one here. Sleep, hunt, explore, repeat. No social skills needed, just pure animal instincts. It was much simpler than all this intrigue and murder. "Do your friends and family know about this?" She didn't have any friends, but she wondered what her mother would think if she got mixed up in such a group. She'd be more than disappointed. She'd be disgusted. Especially considering she had come to school so she could learn to be more than a killer. But there were all kinds of killers weren't there? The Kodiac sounded worse than all the villagers she'd accidentally killed. (Okay, so not all of them were accidents, but those villagers are notoriously pesky.)

Chase shook his head no. "My friends only no the name of the Kodiac they don't know what they do and as my family goes I have found that one of my brothers in in it and maybe even more then that. Its kind of hard to find your family members when you are called by a stupid number."

He had a brother? She'd always wondered what it would be like having siblings. Her parents never wanted to have another child after her. And now, with her father dead, they never would. She'd never thought of herself as lonely before...was she? So many confusing emotions. "Why don't you tell them?" She asked, still confused. Why would he keep something like that from people who cared for him, then turn around and tell a stranger? None of this made sense. "I'm sure they mean more to you than I do."

"Well I don't want to tell them the truth because they have grown to like me the way I am now but if i tell them that they might not like me any more." Cahse answered. " Thatss why i told you, you dont know me that much but if you come to like me great but if not there isn't anything lost from it. I don't mean to say that in a mean way buts you now its kind of true."

"That's not mean, that's practical." Humans feelings were hurt so easily. It was like they were trying to find something to hurt them. She walked toward Chase again till she was only a few feet away. It was strange to be voluntarily close to someone. Normally she shied away. Or else she was attacking. "Aren't you afraid they'll find out?" He had a lot to lose if his secret was discovered. They would think less of him without a doubt. She was still trying to understand everything.

Chase answered "well I'm a little bit scared but my life is full of surprises and anything can happen. Plus I don't fear to die and if I die its not like I have parents that will cry over it. I would just meet them sooner than planned and they wouldn't have any younger Apothethys from me."

It was strange how straight forward he was about everything. You'd think he'd be secretive, constantly making cryptic remarks. "You don't fear death?" She asked, surprised. But then again...did she fear death? The thought never really crossed her mind. She ached over the loss of her father. She worried for her father. But death seemed too...inevitable to get worked up over. "What about the death of those you love? What would the Kodiac do to them if they knew?" It wasn't the happiest topic of conversation, but for some reason she couldn't stop herself. She was so curious.

Chase looked at Erzbet and answered "Well if the ones I loved knew than nothing would happen unless they told someone else and if the Kodiac knew I told them they would kill them so thats why I quess I haven't told them. For their safety most likely."

It must have been hard for him. Being constantly afraid for his family. It made her mother seem very safe, far away in South America. "I'm sorry." She said, her voice even softer than usual. "It must be very hard for you." Even if Erzbet didn't quite understand, she was still learning, the pain and confusion he must be under was evident. Not caring for that many people, she couldn't relate. Maybe it's better to be alone. She thought. No one can get hurt because of you. She shook her head to rid herself of such morbid thoughts.

Chase looked at her and smilied. "There is nothing to be sorry for its just life. I am one of ones that don't get a so happy life i guess. Its not that hard. You justkeep everything to yourself most of the time and you have to be careful of what you say to your friends and family members." Chase didn't want her to feel bad for him he just wanted her t know the truth about him before she thought he was a horible person because of the braning on his neck.

You just keep everything to yourself most of the time. Why did this statement startle her? Maybe it was the simple way he said it. She didn't consider herself overly secretive. No, she didn't volunteer information without being asked. Did that mean she kept to herself? "Sounds...lonely." She mumbled, distracted. Was she lonely? Her head filled up with so many questions. They should be easy to answer. Or at least, they would be for someone who was actually social.

Chase replied no not really I mean I was just told to do things and then stay in this one room were you were supposed to bath in front of each other and fight each other. I mean if any thing there was more privacy issues than anything else.
