It wasn't an ideal day to be outside by any means. The wind felt as if it were warning of an approaching storm, and the sky was severely overcast, threatening to open up and begin raining at any minute. There weren't many people outside, and those who were were quickly running for shelter before the storm hits. All except for one.
Seth remained where she was sitting, back against an oak tree near the end of the garden. The lack of people was precisely the reason that she was outside. Having grown bored with the students, she had decided to seek out a quiet place to think. The coming rain wouldn't bother her. The tree she was under provided enough shelter for it's intended purpose.
Completely isolated; free from questioning eyes, Seth allowed her mind to wander. Was it really worth it, coming to this school. Her life hadn't changed much. The only difference was the lack of an effort to keep surviving. One didn't really need to try when everything was handed to you. That was the only reason she would remain at the Academy, however, in a twist of irony, it also greatly magnified the monotony of her days. She'd just have to spend her time in other ways. Simple enough. She already had a decent-sized list of names. Content with this logic, she closed her eyes and listened to the sound of the rushing wind.

Amy was running as fast as her legs would go across the campus grounds. Having just arrived at the Academy earlier that day, she was eager to explore the vast grounds. The forest, and the garden, and she was pretty sure she heard someone mention that there was a lake somewhere around here as well. Unfortunately, she never made it to the lake. As soon as she found her way out of the maze of trees that was the forest, she noticed how overcast the sky had gotten. That was how she ended up here. Not wanting to get caught in the rain, she ran full-force toward the school.
However, luck wasn't on Amy's side today. Just as she got to the garden it began to rain. Hard. Quickly, she ran underneath the first tree she saw. It was pretty big, luckily, with wide branches that kept a lot of the rain out. It looked like she'd be staying there until the rain let up. As she went to sit down, she noticed that she wasn't alone. Another, older-looking girl was already sitting against the tree, eyes closed.
"Oh, hi there!" Amy said, waving at the girl, "Some weather, huh?"

Seth was able to smell the approaching student before she actually saw her. There was no mistaking that disgusting stench of a human and the rain only magnified it. Wrinkling her nose at the smell, she lifted her eyelids to see the human girl run underneath her tree, seeking shelter from the rain. It took a moment before the girl noticed Seth, portraying the human's lack of awareness.
Though she was tempted to once again close her eyes after hearing the human's idle chat, Seth had decided that she would put up a friendly facade more often. It kept unsuspecting weaklings like this girl none the wiser. She looked back at the human, her mouth contorting into a half-smile.
"I don't mind it much. I rather enjoy the rain."

Amy looked from the rain and back to the girl several times as she listened to her answer. So she actually wanted to be out here right now? She did look content; not disturbed by the rain at all. It almost looked like she was meditating.
"Yeah? I guess it can be comforting sometimes. I just don't like to get soaked!"
She looked up at the sky, wondering when the rain would stop, or at least lessen. A few raindrops managed to find their way through the tree leaves and splash right into Amy's eyes. Flinching slightly, she jumped back, rubbing the water off of her face.
"My name's Amy, by the way. I'm new here!"

Seth watched the human, a distant look on her face, though her eyes portrayed just a hint of her amusement. She was quite cheery. Not to mention imbecilic. As she watched the spectacle unfold before her, Seth was reminded of the old proverb, Some people walk in the rain, others just get wet.
Not only did she readily introduce herself, but she also revealed her lack of familiarity with the school. Everyone here seemed so willing to reveal so much about themselves with very little prodding from Seth. Attitudes like that can get people killed. She knew that only too well. Though, she wouldn't point that out to the human. It was better this way. Better for Seth, that is.
"I'm Seth. It's nice to meet you."

Amy smiled happily at her new friend. She had kind of a somber and serious look, but she was still pretty friendly! She introduced herself as Seth. A strange name for a girl, Amy thought to herself, It must be short for something, like a nickname... Or maybe her parents were experimental.
"Nice to meet you too!" She immediately returned the pleasantry, "So, what exactly is this school like? I've never been to a bording school before. Or even to a school this cool. Did you know there's a movie theater?!"
She smiled broadly in the direction of the cinema. This school was awesome, without a doubt. Although... There was something kinda strange about the people here. They would all smile so kindly at her but... It almost seemed like they were sorry for her. Like they knew something she didn't. Aw, it was probably nothing. She was just being paranoid.

This girl was only too willing to give out as much information about her as she possibly could. Simply idiotic on her part.
Seth was having to crane her neck to peer around the tree at the human, which led to a tight, uncomfortable feeling in her neck. She turned her head away from the girl, resting it against the tree once again. Then, watching the rain fall to the ground all around her, she waited as the sensation was lessened. All the while, she was focused on the way the rain drops splashed against the blades of grass, which she found more interesting than the girl's question.
"I'm fairly new here myself," She finally said, "Though this school does have it's... Charms. Interesting people... Decent courses... Artful layout..."
She didn't bother to look back at the human as she spoke, though she made sure to keep the light tone in her voice. It was unnecessary to say anything more. The human would surely be happy with her response. The less she said, the better, anyway. After all, the girl was clearly a pathetic, defenseless human. She clearly didn't even have magic abilities to protect her and she obviously didn't know about the creatures that resided here. Such a dangerously simple existence.

"I know, right!"
Amy had to hug her knees close to her body as she was overcome with another wave of enthusiasm. When her parents first told her about this place, it sounded like just another preppy school for snobby kids. Well, that... Was only partly true. It might be for rich, snobby kids, but everything about this place was incredible. It was no wonder most students here were wealthy. It was almost intimidating for Amy.
Shoving aside any frightening thoughts, she pulled out her schedule from her pocket.
"So you're new too? Can I see your schedule? Maybe we have some classes together!"

Though she appeared to be listening, Seth barely caught the girl's question. Robotically reaching into her inside jacket pocket, she produced the schedule she had been given, perhaps a week ago. Still not looking back, she handed the human her schedule over her shoulder.
There was nothing to worry about. All the non-human classes were worded in such a way that they were disguised from any human. There was nothing in that schedule that would arouse any human's suspicion, least of all this girl's.
With a sigh, Seth closed her eyes once again. She rather hoped that the human wasn't in any of her classes. She'd had quite enough of these bright and cheery people. Well, if she did have class with her, that might provide extra incentive to rid the world of this repulsive little "ball of sunshine"

Taking the paper that Seth handed to her, Amy eagerly began comparing the two schedules. She seemed to have a bunch of different classes that Amy had never heard of. They must be advanced courses, or something, She thought. Though she did have some familiar classes. Including...
"Oh! We have the same math class!" She pointed out excitedly, handing the schedule back to Seth.
Then, looking back up at the sky she noticed that it seemed to be lighter than before. Not to mention the rain had subsided into a light drizzle. Looks like waiting payed off after all. She looked back at Seth, still leaning against the tree, eyes closed, and wondered if she was going to move at all.
"Looks like the rain's letting up."

As she took back her schedule, Seth briefly glanced at the shared math course. Only one class, though she would still be in need of a distraction from the human's excessive chatter. Sighing, she put the paper away and closed her eyes, inhaling deeply, trying to take in the scent of a fresh rainfall without also taking in the horrible scent of a human.
She heard the girl say something about the rain, so she lazily opened her eyes to see that the weather had dramatically lessened. The rain had almost stopped, but there was still a sharp wind which told her that the storm was still not finished yet. Almost as if to corroborate her thoughts, a bolt of lighting fell far in the distance, illuminating the sky.
"For now..." She responded, "Though I'd suggest leaving now, lest you want to be trapped here again... See you around."

Amy heard the thunder and sprang up, looking across the garden, expecting to see it start to downpour again. Nothing yet, but it was coming. Now would probably be a good time to go check out her dorm.
"Yeah, good idea!"
She reached a hand out of the safety of the tree, feeling a few drops of rain splash on her palm. She took off her jacket, draping it over her head and shoulders just in case she was caught in the storm again. Quickly, she trotted out a few feet, then she turned back to Seth.
"I'll see you in math, then!" She called before turning around and running toward the dorms.
