Zuri Makkuro
[/blockquote][/blockquote] It wasn't even valentine's day and yet there they were.
Chocolate hearts outside her dorm There was never anything attached to the hearts, probably because he thought to be a pointless thing to do since she would know who they were from simply by looking at them. Like M&Ms only different. Sometimes, in fact, there was more than one. But the fact remained that she would get them every day, sometimes twice.
The little beast was coating hearts--hearts that had once beat and sent blood through a living, breathing being--in chocolate and leaving them for her, probably as gifts or something. Perhaps there was some little meaning of amour behind them but, like the literal little sponge she was, she didn't notice that meaning. All she saw were delicious heart treats, made by none other than the master demon with the family recipe.
Coyle.
This particular day she was walking up the stairs to her dorm, expecting a heart to be there like it always was. Or maybe the demon himself would be standing there. She wouldn't bet too much money on the latter outcome.

Coyle placed the candied heart on Zuri's doorstep - wrapped in parchment paper just like he always had it. He was going to just leave it there like he did the others. He'd been leaving candied mythical creature hearts on Zuri's doorstep for about a month now - but at the sound of footsteps he kind of froze.
Why freeze? Well, it's not like he's going to run away as soon as he hears noises. He was not afraid of Zuri. He was, however, building up to something.
Something had come, he had decided. Today was the day for something. He dropped the heart, then waited for the footsteps to come right up to him.
"Special delivery!" he chimed, mockingly. He was leaning against the doorframe, nearly a foot shorter than her, and in blue jeans and a ridiculous shirt carrying the phrase "I do all my own stunts." All in all, he did not seem either the dastardly killer that slew innocent creatures to rip out their hearts or the romantic Zorro-type that left them on the doorsteps of beloveds. And yet here he was, both of those.
Besides, he was much cooler than Zorro.
Coyle wrapped his arms around himself, leaning there, waiting for Zuri to take her latest treat.
Obviously she didn't get the symbolism. More importantly, she didn't get the irony.

Zuri Makkuro
[/blockquote][/blockquote] What was the point in all this, she wondered. Obviously Zuri wasn't the type to think too deeply on things. She took them for face-value unless it was something that made no sense to her, or made her think a little about it. Earlier today she'd begun to think about it some, and she prodded at it a little before giving up. The hearts were good weren't they? That was really all that mattered, right?
Humming a small tune she walking up a few more steps, thinking about the vat that he'd made them in the first time. Curiously enough she couldn't find it sometimes. It was probably her imagination, but it COULD be that Coyle moved it around. The back room still smelled like bacon and chocolate if she closed her eyes and thought.
The voice came to her ears as she pulled up to the floor with her dorm on it, and she grinned from ear to ear. Usually Coyle was gone when she came back. The Nightmare had to wonder why he was there now. Did he just decide that he would stay to present it to her personally? That was nice...
At last the meaning of chocolate hearts as well as the irony came over her in a huge torrent. Hearts, the centerpiece of perceived emotions and the corner figure of feelings of love, not to mention the fact that it's a disgusting thing to any rational being--actual hearts coating in the innocence of chocolate... all of this information coming over her in the span of several seconds.
"Special delivery, huh?" She said, walking to her dorm and picking up the heart in parchment paper. "I wonder what it could be." With that she opened it and bit it, using her free hand ot open the door, which was strangely enough not locked. "Thank you."

"You've said that before," the beast chimed, pleasantly, but with a bit of playful cynicism that could only come in a cocktail or else be too potent to use at all in this siatuation. "Let's try some new words. Aside from threats and frying pans, we barely try new things."
As unabashed as the silvery statement was, it was also right. They really didn't talk. At all. He met her, they fought, she beamed him, then this game of find the chocolate covered treat started. That's about it. More to the point, it wasn't going anywhere fast, and Coyle was pretty big on speed.
"I'll start first." He said, seeming to think about what he said next for a moment before saying anything else.
"Hi. I'm Coyle. What's your name?"
He knew her name, but not because she'd ever told him. That was a good enough place to start then. As if she'd answered his question already, he went on.
"I'm Coyle, no last name. Never thought to have one; and oh, isn't that interesting! We both like chocolate!"
He laughed, pretending he was in a delightful and completely not weird conversation - which he was.
"Isn't it the darndest thing! We have so much in common! Well listen, it's funny you should bring that up, because for some silly reason I can't help but leave you chocolate every day. I don't know why... It's so silly! You must think the worst of me! Not to worry, I'm sure it's just me being bashful and all. You see, I ah... I kinda think you're sweet. Like chocolate."
It would have been sarcasm if it wasn't so artfully done. Instead, it sounded more like someone preforming in a play. A cheesy play, but he did like the fifties. Always a great group of kids. So earnest. So lovable. So trusting when they really shouldn't be. All in all, it made for a tooth sweet love confession he thought.

Zuri Makkuro
[/blockquote][/blockquote] Zuri paused, one foot in the doorway of her dorm before she caught the demon's voice addressing her. Did that mean that he was actually going to talk to her? Oh goodness! This was so exciting. He said something about how she never did anything new, having said thank you to him already. She raised an eyebrow. "Sk'luupa." She said, simply saying thank you in another language.
Yeah, she was a smartass. Yes, she enjoyed it very much.
The short blonde then said that he was Coyle and asked her what her name was. Zuri began to reply by saying that he already knew her name, but decided it would be better to just play along in his little game. Maybe that would make it be over more quickly and she could shower and change out of her work clothes into her lounging clothes. "I'm Zuri. Zuri Makkuro."
Her last name was a name the men had given her. As quickly as that thought came she shook it away. She was never going to think about the men again. The men were bad people that weren't supposed to be in her head. The men did not exist, not anymore.
A hand went to her mouth to keep from laughing too blatantly as he plowed along, stated about how much they had in common, passing off his dutiful delivery of the chocolate coated hearts as his own bashfulness, and ending his monologue with a comment comparing her to their common addiction: chocolate.
After her little fit of laughter, she coughed, not knowing how to respond. Zuri didn't get admirers. People like that just... never seemed to come for her. But now this little beastie comes along... it was intriguing. She didn't know if she could say that she felt the same, though he wasn't too bad looking and he was deliciously malicious despite his angelic features... So she finished her chocolate heart and turned to him.
"I'm flattered." Zuri said, placing her hand over her heart, the action appearing to be mocking in its execution and somewhat sincere. "That you think of me as chocolate. Personally, I find you to be... a sourpatch kid." First they're sour, then they're sweet.

Coyle had to stop a spurt of laughter himself. Why yes, he'd done a fantastical job of monologueing as he so loved to do - and yes, he did indeed sugar coat the hell out of everything because it was just so damn funny to do so... but she had a completely different kind of humor to her. Drier. Quieter, but with a liveliness that came from the simple meaning, not the bling.
Coyle liked bling, but he enjoyed all manner of the shiny baubles known as humor. That is why he appreciated the continuation of hte candy metaphor, and that is why he had to stifle himself. So funny...
He wanted to say something along the lines of, "Aw... That's so cute."
Instead he swallowed that and picked out something a little less demeaning (although he did like demeaning people.)
"Not sweet." The fragment did as well as a sentence, but as Coyle always did, he elaborated past the need to elaborate. "Oh no dear, I'm not sweet at all... I'm just devoted. And I know what I want."
That too sounded sweet, the beast realized. He was devoted... aw. What an adorable thing to say. How lovely, and how sentimental - that the vile thing that he was could love something else. He'd be the first one to argue. Coyle was not devoted to love, just to her. Or maybe even not her. The idea of having her. Being with her, Spending linear time with her to fulfil some kind of need he'd just recently noticed he had.
Funny, how that worked. He needed her and he'd known her for only a month. Well, that's how it goes... Not with love. With lust. Praticularly Coyle's brand of lust. He saw something, he fell madly in love with it, he often killed many things to acquire it, then he played with it until a better model came along. Then the cycle went on. Forever and ever.
Not to be beaten to this acquiring of the shiny new toy that he had just so recently found and devoted his existence to, Coyle bounced a few steps ahead in the relationship scale and just went for the jackpot.
"Ah, so I know there's a name for this... The thing you do with another person so no one else can steal them... Oh crap.. hold on..."
He scratched his bright blond hair, thinking apparently very hard about this thing that should be obvious. Well, he'd never needed it before - except when two for one murdering was involved - so he rarely ever needed to remember it.
And then he snapped his fingers, and the word popped out timed exactly with the snap.
"Girlfriend!"
He didn't bother with a deal-sealing smile. He just stood there as entitled as always.
"Yes. I like that word. You're it now. I'll get more hearts for you tomorrow."
...and with that apparently the conversation was now over. Coyle vanished, having his mission completed and all. Simple as that.
He had a new girlfriend!

Zuri Makkuro
[/blockquote][/blockquote] This little thing that they were doing, could it be considered flirting? Perhaps so, since it was established that the creature had some type of interest in her. The confession was one of love by anyone's standards, but it was just... he didn't seem like the love type. He seemed more like the, "when I murder everyone I'll kill you last" type. Was there a difference between the two? She wasn't sure. Zuri would have to look that up the next chance she got.
So he wasn't sweet? Just a devoted male who knew what he want? It was clear from his conduct that it was she that he wanted. Any other girl would have flushed at that knowledge and looked away bashfully, but it just made her grin. Her green eyes didn't ever deter from his face. It was clear that Zuri was not your average girl, but that much was more than obvious by now. What girl ate chocolate hearts and candy without a thought to her weight? What girl ran like she actually was trying to get somewhere in a hurry, and hit people over the head with serving platters?
There was a pause in her thoughts as Coyle stated there was a name for claiming someone as your own. She realized it a milisecond before the temporal demon said it.
Girlfriend?! The nightmare didn't recall consenting to this!
"Wait, what? I never agreed to th--ah he's gone..." She sighed and lifted her hand to her forehead and let out a long low breath before counting to ten. Perhaps this could wait until tomorrow, since there was no way she would be able to deal with this with her body aching like it was. Zuri stepped into her dorm and shut the door behind her, taking a hot shower and changing into her pajamas, which consisted of an overlarge teeshirt and shorts and crawled into bed.
Covers pulled up to her chin she'd let her body rest while she went to work in the dreams of a few victims around the world. "I'll deal with this tomorrow..." she muttered softly before falling asleep.
