Unfettered by the immense span of time that had passed since he had first dragged a barstool behind the bar and started working his way up to hard liquor and shots, White still felt the need to glance over every once in a while in between draws of smoke and gulps.
Not that he hadn't ever sen anything like it before, but he hadn't seen anything like it before... All feathered up, and no sparkly angel powers in sight. She was too damn hot to be an angel too, not to mention the fact that she hadn't sneered at him since coming in.
That was usually a big sign. Angels? they didn't like him much. Must be because vampires hated god and all that bullcrap. Well, if that was the case, then he guessed he fit the stereotype. Didn't care much for any church anywhere - mostly not the one that angels hung out at.
Well, she was definitely mythological, and she had that oddness about her that reminded him of.... Ivy, actually.
Damn, did she know Ivy? That'd be a fun mystery to solve right there. Who the hell was Ivy anyways? And why was she in former Illia's body? The thought of alien invasion briefly crossed his mind, but just as soon as it came, it was gone - chased off by the sting of some damn good alcohol.
Hehe. Aliens... Sounded really funny to the immortal man eating monster with the bourbon glass.
Eventually, and without much in the way of subtlety, White finally figured he cared enough to exert the energy to be curious.
"Hey there," he said, sliding his chair along the bar until he sat right in front of the odd not-angel angel-looking thing.
"You're with Ivy aren't you?"

Staring down into the depths of her glass, Vera studied her reflection for a bit, noting the strange way in which her eyes sparkled and wondering if anyone else noticed, and if they did did it make them suspicious. Deciding to simply drown her worries, she took another gulp of her, what was it? Her third? fourth drink? She liked the drinks here. They weren't quite like the mead they served where she came from, but they were nice.
Deciding to go slow with the rest of her drink unlike the previous three or four, she set her glass down on the bar and took the opportunity to glance around the quaint, little cafe. She liked this town. It reminded her so much of the towns on that world she used to spend so much time watching over. The buildings, the people, the men luring women into dark alleyways. All so similar.
She had felt someone watching her for awhile now, but had decided to ignore it. She couldn't really think of a suitable way to respond anyway. However, when they moved to sit right in front of her, she finally looked up, tipping her head curiously. He was the owner of this cafe, if she wasn't mistaken, as well as the bartender. She recalled finding it rather strange that a man was serving the alcohol, but she attributed it to this world's many abnormalities.
She also found it strange that he'd just come up to her and strike up a conversation. Then he mentioned Ivy. Everything suddenly made sense.
"Yes I am. I am Vera."
Since they got here, Ivy had felt the need to come gallivanting up to her every time their paths crossed. She would call out to her cheerfully and proceed to walk much too close to her as she explained all the strange troubles she seemed to get herself into. Of course Vera remembered the time not so long ago that Ivy had strode up to her, a triumphant smile on her face as she happily shouted, "Hey, Vera! Guess what I smoked yesterday!"
Yes, she was quite certain that this was the place she had spoken about, and this was the man that she now treated as if he were an old friend. Such a strange girl she was. Well she was a very interesting creature to watch, that was certain.
"You are... Captain?"

Whatever it was that had gotten into White - whether it be the lack of booze in a fast enough pace or the lack of nicotine in a great enough dosage, or maybe even too much blood which tended to make him more lively than his usual disinterested self - it all left him as he fought to swallow his drink right.
"****... that sounds terrible." the man laughed listlessly, pounding a fist at his chest to get the burning sensation out of his lungs. This was done purely out of habit. He didn't really feel like he was choking, but it would be nice if he got to drink some of that bourbon and not inhale it all.
"Does she call me that?" he asked, still slightly chortling to himself.
Never a nickname in five hundred years of life, and then he gets high with one girly and she gives him a bad one... He didn't mind her mumbling it half-drunkenly, but it kinda rubbed you the wrong way hearing someone else say it.
"I'm White..." he quickly fixed this problem, taking an overly long draw of smoke to calm him down. He needed a bit of calm right now. Was goddamn caffeinated today... wondered why? Wasn't anything he ate, was it? Nothing he took either. Hmm.
White followed up his drag with another, smaller and more careful sip of bourbon, finally finishing the sentence that he seemed to have started a moment ago.
"Pleasure, Vera."
He had run through several theories about this angelic creature now, and judging by the liking to alcohol, the indifference with him, and plenty of other smaller things, he figured he knew what kind of critter she as.
One of those Norse things... He forgot the name. Started with a "v" though, and he only remembered that because mythical critters that started with the letter "v" were a rarity. He himself was something that started with "v," and he did appreciate the uniqueness of the word "vampire."
...or some crap like that. Guess he liked the sound of the word more than anything. White gulped down the last of his glass, then reached over to a nozzle just out of the comfortable area of his reach and filled his glass with the contents. Swirling the thick, almost creamlike blood around in the remnants of the bourbon as he always did, White proceeded to nurse this next glass exactly as he would a glass of liquor.
One happy sip at a time. Hmm... why did he always have bourbon with his blood? Must taste better that way.

After a very long day full of drinking, smoking, and setting things on fire, Ivy finally came to stop outside of the cafe. Why yes, of course the cafe! Though she didn't care to make the trek down from that school where she had been setting papers on fire just to come down here to get a drink, she simply had to. After all, everyone on that campus was a ****ing angel and would never be caught with alcohol. She had only met several people who even smoked for ****'s sake. Those students... They disgusted her.
Shaking her head, she entered the cafe, stopping just inside to take a draw from her cigarette. That was when she noticed that something was off. There was a... Disturbance. Glancing around, she quickly located the source of that disturbance.
"Aha! Well, lookie here!"
Smiling triumphantly, though she had nothing to feel triumphant about, she walked over to the bar, pulling up a stool and sitting down beside Vera. Vera... She liked Vera. Vera was hot. In Earth lingo that meant she was physically attractive and it would be awesome to have sexual relations with her. Then, glancing across the bar at White, she nodded. White... Cap'n. She also liked Cap'n. He wasn't as hot, but he did alright for an old guy.
And now here they were. Both together like this... Wait, together? And drinking? Without her? Bastards were probably making plans to go have hot, supernatural sex. Well **** them! She'd go find someone else. There were plenty of... Guys... Actually, it was rather hard to tell the difference between a lot of the guys and the girls. All so feminine. That frightened her just a little. Luckily, women were just as good, and in many cases better. Oh, but where would she find more drugs and alcohol if she started boycotting this place? ****. They really had her backed against a wall. Goddamn it. She was trapped. Well, there might be a way out... She could kill one of them...
It was right about now that she noticed she had been glaring at them. Oops. Now what was that about? She had been upset about something... Something that involved lesbian sex and alcohol? Eh, whatever. Must not have been that important.
So instead she replaced her smile, leaning on the bar so she could get a good look at both of them.
"My two closest friends in the entire world... I love you guys."
With those heartfelt words she slipped her arms around Vera's waist and hugged her tightly, resting her head upon her shoulder. She then looked over at Cap'n, adding, "Oh hey, can I get somethin' to drink?"

Her head tipped in curiosity when she noticed that this man didn't seem to like the name Ivy called him by, though she couldn't imagine why. She would just have to add that to the list of things she would have to learn about the creatures here. Though she didn't have a reason for wanting to learn such things. It was merely curiosity. Something she was once told a Valkyrie shouldn't have.
Smiling politely, she nodded just as she noticed someone else enter the room. It wasn't necessary to look to figure out who this new person was. Her accent was distinctive enough. Also, so far she was the only person she had met who almost constantly smelled like soot.
"Ivy," Vera acknowledged, just as the girl sat next to her.
She watched as Ivy seemed to flip through a range of emotions before finally deciding that she was happy again. At times Vera wondered just what could be going on inside of her mind. Then at other times she decided that it was probably better that she didn't know. The latter was probably the one she should abide by.
Although she didn't flinch, Vera did look a little disconcerted as Ivy moved her arms around her waist. At times she was awfully - what was the word? - affectionate? Well Vera didn't care for such affections. They were very strange displays to her.
Perhaps there was a good reason why Ivy hadn't been taken up to Valhalla. She shuddered to think of all she would say and do to the other maidens. And she thought some of the men could be strange.

Deftly, White produced a glass and something strong enough to hold Ivy off for the moment. He went back to his own glass then, taking smaller sips as he realized whatever the hell kind of drug he was on that was making him so damn hyper, it would probably get worse with some blood to wash it down with.
He kinda had to pay more attention to what he took... Eh. Or not. Hadn't keeled over yet. As long as he didn't start hallucinating he was good - tended to stay away from that stuff until it got later. Not that he minded seeing weird ****. It was just kinda dangerous when ya started shooing at things that weren't there in a room full of people.
White chuckled, remembering that.
"Speak of the Devil," he mumbled in between sips. Then he kinda caught on to the fact that they weren't from around here. Right. Not getting that reference.
Did they even have a Devil where Ivy and Vera came from? ****... he didn't care. Wasn't good with that religious crap, so he sure as hell wasn't going to know what kind of superstitions they had wherever they came from. Slumping on the bar like he usually did, glass in hand, he slid over that greeting and got to something more substantial.
"Guess you two are pretty well acquainted," he said, noticing Ivy being affectionate and Vera trying to ignore it as best she could. With another small sip of his glass and a good amount of thought, White decided to pick at something he thought might be interesting to hear.
"So how'd you guys get here anyways? Not from anywhere I'd know, so it's off the beaten track."
And by this, he meant not anywhere earthly. White had been to plenty of earthly places all over the planet. Not much of an adventurer, but five hundred years was a lot of time to wander aimlessly around - and he did like to wander. Saw many things. Did a bit more than that. Hell of a lot of stories from it - but he wasn't really getting "earth" from the girl in another girl's body and the one with the wings. Strange a place as earth turns out to be after figuring out a bunch of freaks live here too.
